Multiparametric Prostate MRI

Multiparametric prostate MRI is a new imaging technique which allows better assessment of the prostate gland than standard MRI or ultrasound scans previously available. Numerous studies have demonstrated its effectiveness, when carried out before a biopsy, in the detection of prostate cancer.

A multiparamagnetic MRI scan prior to a prostate biopsy facilitates a whole gland assessment, guides targeted biopsies, improves the detection of clinically significant tumours and reduces the detection of clinically insignificant tumours (1,2)

This approach is now recommended as best practice by a european consensus meeting (3) and has been adopted routinely by Berkshire Imaging Consultant Radiologists in close collaboration with the referring Urology Consultant colleagues.
